Let Me Share MY Island With You

The natural diversity of Bruny Island allows me to design itineraries to suit your interests, whether that is bird-watching (almost 140 species, including all 12 endemic Tasmanian species can be found on the island), wildlife observation, photography or discovering the amazing variety of plants (from rainforests to coastal heathlands).

Half-Day Tours of Bruny

Cool Temperate Rainforest Tour

Enjoy a nature walk through temperate rainforest trees, including Myrtle, Sassafrass, Celery-top pine and Leatherwood. Search for the elusive and rare endemic Tasmanian scrubtit and see treeferns, giant Richea and Tasmanian waratahs with their spectacular bright red blooms (flowering time November-December). Includes spectacular views of Cloudy and Adventure Bays, Cloudy Lagoon, the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Mount Wellington (weather permitting).

Bruny’s Wild Coastline

Experience the spectacularly rugged southern coastline of Bruny and observe the magnificence of the Southern Ocean in all its splendour. See a range of coastal vegetation types, from tussock grasses to richly diverse heathland and woodland (including Tasmanian endemic plant species). Provides a good chance to see threatened species such as Hooded plovers, as well as Kelp gulls and Tawny-crowned honeyeaters. We may even see a whale in the distance. Seals, albatross and some of the Southern Ocean penguin species have also been sighted on these beaches.

Explore “INALA” (a walking tour)

A great opportunity to see some rare and threatened flora and fauna. We can expect to see many of up to 90 bird species found at “INALA“, including the endangered Forty-spotted pardalote, Swift parrots (September to March) , beautiful firetail finches and the spectacular white colour morph of the Grey goshawk. All 12 endemic Tasmanian bird species are found on the property. We will also see enormous eucalypt trees and tree ferns, a magnificent stand of Blackwood trees, and some native terrestrial orchids (most species are in flower between the months of August to March). “INALA” bird lists and orchid lists will be provided on request.
Includes morning or afternoon tea, transport on Bruny Island, National Park entry fees (when required) and specialist guiding.

Day Tour of Bruny

From the Mountains to the Sea

A fascinating nature adventure which provides a great overview of the flora and fauna of Bruny Island. The differences between the natural features of north and south Bruny will be startlingly apparent as we travel around the island, searching for threatened species and discovering Bruny’s diversity of flora and fauna. A variety of different habitats will be explored, ranging from spectacular oceanic coastlines and secluded beaches, to temperate rainforest.
Includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea, transport on Bruny Island, National Park entry fees and specialist guiding.

Evening Tours

(available for those staying on the island overnight)

Penguins, Possums and Pademelons

Tonight at dusk we will observe the Little penguin and Short-tailed shearwater rookeries as the birds return to their burrows from the ocean (September to March). Then we will visit other areas of Bruny Island, where we will have the opportunity to observe nocturnal mammals and birds, such as Bennett's wallabies, Tasmanian pademelons, Brush-tailed possums, Eastern quolls and Tawny frogmouths. Also a chance to see the Southern sky in all it's brilliance on a clear night (and maybe even the Aurora australis).
Includes collection and delivery from your accommodation, transport on Bruny Island and specialist guiding.

Antarctic Slide Show (an option for “INALA” guests)

After 12 years of involvement with the Australian Antarctic Division, I offer the opportunity to share my experiences of Antarctica through the visual splendour of this fascinating area. Discover the magnificent scenery, amazing wildlife and the lives of the people on the research stations and ships from the comfort of your lounge chair.
