Bruny Island is situated off the southeast coast of Tasmania, Australia, about 40kms (45 minutes’ drive) south of Hobart. There is no need to book (in fact bookings cannot be made) but the ferry crew request that you arrive at the ferry terminal at least 15 minutes' prior to the scheduled departure time. During busy times (eg Christmas, Easter and public holidays) the ferry may break its schedule and offer a shuttle service between ferry terminals to cope with the increased traffic. During these periods you may experience longer waiting times and we advise that you arrive at the ferry terminal and wait in the queue until the ferry crew instructs you to embark. Loading lanes are provided at the ferry terminal at both Kettering and Bruny Island and standard sized vehicles are expected to fill the right hand lanes first (the left lanes are usually reserved for large vehicles such as trucks and campervans or for overflow during busy periods).
The ferry fare is currently $25/standard vehicle (slightly more for public holidays) and is valid for the return trip. The ferry crew takes the fee on the way over and there is no need to show your ticket on the return journey for which there is no time restriction. The ferry trip takes about 15 minutes and it is another 45 minutes' drive to INALA.
Directions to INALA for those with their own transport:
INALA is situated approximately 45 minutes' drive (and 47 kms) from the ferry terminal. After disembarking the ferry at Roberts Point on Bruny Island, drive down the main road. You will pass over the narrow neck that separates north and south Bruny islands, and through the township of Alonnah before reaching a T-junction at the township of Lunawanna (this part of the trip will take about 40 minutes and 43 kms if driving directly). Turn left at the T-junction into the Cloudy Bay Road. INALA is situated at 320 Cloudy Bay Road, which means that the entrance to the property is located 3.2 kms from this T-junction. The property is marked by a large INALA sign on the right hand side of the road. The office/reception is located in a large shed which on the LHS of the driveway about 20m from the property entrance. This is visible from the road. Both cottages are clearly labeled and signs along the driveway indicate the direction of each.
INALA Cottage:
The main access to the cottage is via the door under the front verandah (not external door facing the BBQ area).
NAIRANA Cottage:
The Nairana cottage is the first unit that you reach as you approach the building and access is via a ramp next to the carport. Tonia’s personal residence is situated at the far (southern) end of the building but separated from Nairana by a large central, sound-proofed entrance so you still have privacy and completely separate access (Tonia is also a fairly good neighbour as she is often away on tour or working in the office so she is hardly ever there!).
Check-in/check-out times for accommodation:
Check in time is 2:00pm onwards and Check-out is 10:00am
Meeting point at office for Bruny Tours with no accommodation component:
Park your vehicle in the car park outside the office. Your guide will meet you here at the pre-arranged starting time of your tour. You can safely leave your vehicle here and transfer across to the tour vehicle to start your tour.
Collection and delivery to and from Hobart metropolitan area/Hobart airport is also available-please ask for further details.
